On June 20, 2022, Ethan Hawke star of The Black Phone, as well as director, producer and writer of the film, Scott Derrickson, discussed the possibilities of a sequel, with Derrickson mentioning an idea that he had discussed with short story author Joe Hill. On July 13, 2022, as The Black Phone crossed the $100 million mark at the box office, Derrickson again discussed the possibility of a sequel and his talks with Hill. On April 26, 2023, Jason Blum announced his hopes to see many more entries in The Black Phone franchise.[2] On November 29, 2023, it was announced that the original main cast of the first film would return for the sequel.
On December 25, 2023, it was confirmed that Scott Derrickson would return to direct the sequel.[3]
